CritiTech Announces
New Patent
August 6, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
U.S. Patent No. 7,744,923 issued to CritiTech
With an issue date of June 29, 2010, U.S. Patent No. 7,744,923
B2 was awarded to CritiTech for a Method of Precipitation
of Small Medicament Particles into Use Containers. The patent,
which lists as inventors Drs. Roger A. Rajewski, Bala Subramaniam
and Fenghui Niu, all of Lawrence, Kansas, teaches a method
of drying dissolved medicines directly in use containers by
the supercritical fluid drying method known as lyophobic precipitation.
The key finding in the work that led to the patent was a means
of using ultrasonic energy to disrupt the solvent/supercritical
fluid interface so as to enable extraction of the solvent
into the supercritical fluid. The method will allow the rapid
(approximately one hour) drying of drugs from organic solvents
within the dispensing vials used for injectable drugs. The
technology will find application as a replacement for lyophilization,
especially for those compounds that are unstable in aqueous
solution. The patent expiration date is October 11, 2027.
